Peter's DVD is a wonderful place to start conversations that matter about our work with groups or individuals.

I have shown it to individuals and in conjunction with World Cafe style conversations with as many as 70 people and the resulting learning has been awesome in all situations.

Peter's use of humor and music allows people to think about the deeper meaning of the work and our relationships in a way that is natural and real.

--Anne Mitchell, teacher, community builder, consultant, Speedway, IN

I have shown your DVD at training sessions for new staff and today to our supported living team in Kapiti.

The feedback has been fabulous, and it is the best resource I have used that gives clear, effective messages to support workers as to the 'how' we should be supporting people to live good lives ..

I want to thank you so much for this resource.

Your video was very well received here.

I plan to include "Doing Our Best Work" as part of our interviewing process for new Direct Support Professionals, and our management team will be showing it at support team meetings to engage people in conversation.

At our staff meeting this morning we watched your video and read your piece on 10 ingredients of quality support.

I want to tell you how much I appreciate what you created! It has energized me at a time when I really needed it.

Time for an addition to your training resources library??

In this 17-minute video, Peter looks at ten essential components of quality direct support. A video for training and discussion with people providing or coordinating direct support, Doing Our Best work is based on a workshop Peter offers, and its production was supported by the New Hampshire Council on Developmental Disabilities ( www.nhddc.org )

  1. Believing in positive possibilities
  2. Building community relationships
  3. Listening deeply
  4. Working as a team
  5. Embracing curiosity
  6. Understanding the power of language
  7. Supporting people through relationships with them
  8. Asking "What brings out the best in this person?"
  9. Having power with, not power over
  10. Questioning structures and policies that limit people

"Marvelous. Absolutely marvelous. I love how playful it is and how compelling it is all at the same time. I am impressed too by how well it is edited. It really moves well. I liked the captions, some of them serious and some of them fun ... a nice touch. I love it!"

The “Doing Our Best Work” workshop/training is designed to engage participants in a conversation about what quality really means in the lives of people with disabilities, elders, and those who support them.

Here’s how folks in Nebraska described the training:

"ACP, with the support of AAMR - Nebraska hosted the annual spring conference May 8 (Lincoln) and 9 (North Platte). Peter Leidy, a consultant, speaker and trainer in the human service field from Madison, Wisconsin spent the day with a record 150 participants in Lincoln and about 51 in North Platte.

Through songs, sharing personal experiences and the stories of people he has met along the way Peter challenged participants to consider what it means to do our best work. Throughout the day, there were opportunities for small groups to discuss the various issues and share personal stories as examples.

Peter's use of humor and original songs kept the group lively and tuned in to his message. Participants said that Peter was "inspirational", "powerful, brought home his message in a way that let you actually feel what he was saying, not just hear it", "one of the best, ever" and "made me really take a look at myself, and how I do my job!"
